How to choose the right bike
Types of bikes by intended use
Mountain bikes (MTB)
Bikes designed for riding on varied terrain, from easy to demanding.
The choice of model depends on several factors: the terrain you ride most often, how demanding it is, how long you spend on the bike and how often you use it. These factors determine the technical equipment the bike needs. For example, for riding on easy terrain you can choose a model with basic components, whereas for demanding terrain it is better to choose a better-equipped model, which is reflected in the price. A mountain bike can also be ridden on the road, but because of its design and the type of tyres used, riding on this surface is not as efficient as on a cross bike.
Cross bikes
Bikes designed for both off-road and road riding.
This bike is chosen by cyclists who will use it about 80% of the time on field and forest tracks and on paved roads. For short periods it can also be used on easy terrain off the road. The frame design allows a more comfortable, more upright riding position than a mountain bike. This type of bike has become very popular recently and is ideal for cycle touring.
Road bikes
These bikes are designed for sporty riding on roads and closed circuits. We do not recommend using this type of bike on any kind of terrain.
BMX and freestyle bikes
Bikes designed for use either on closed circuits or on paved enclosed areas intended for this type of bike. They are not suitable for travelling longer distances.
Once you have chosen the type of bike that best suits how you will use it, it is also important to choose the bike by size. The size of a bike means the length of the seat tube.
Bike size is given by the manufacturer in inches, centimetres, millimetres or as S, M, L, XL.
When choosing a bike size, follow these general rules:
